Katharine Fountain and Sines - MYÜZ at the NAC

Congratulations to Cherry Audio sound designer Katharine Fountain (FOUNTAINS) on her sold out immersive exhibition at Ottawa's National Arts Centre of Canada, featuring Sines synthesizer.

MYÜZ is a monumental reimagining of interactive experiences, seamlessly blending elements of challenging puzzles, immersive art exhibits, and calm sensory spaces.

In this hour-long, self-guided adventure, navigate through an artist’s surreal dreamscapes and immerse yourself in an otherworldly tapestry. Using the latest in dream manipulation technology, solve challenges to infiltrate the depths of the artist’s mind — and maybe inspire the world’s next masterpiece.

In video posts this week on Instagram and Facebook, Katharine shared a glimpse of the installation, saying, "I wanted to create an aura of suspense, so I went with some lush pads and lots of effects processing using Soundtoys Crystalizer and Valhalla Shimmer reverb. To simulate the idea of moving into a portal I played around a lot with pitch shift and filter modulation throughout the piece.

Suspended from the sky are two large clouds, so I made sure to reference rain andthunder samples periodically throughout the soundscape. I don't like to be too literal, especially in a fantasy land like this one, so I used a lot of processing here. Lastly I sprinkled in some plucks using one of my favourite patches from my collection on Cherry Audio's Sines synth named "Gröna Lund" unsynced. This nostalgic sound suited the space perfectly."
