Rolf Kasten of Rofilm Media has published "Making Generative Music With Voltage Modular, Vol. 1," a massive 450+ page introduction to creating endless and evolving music with the Voltage Modular platform. The e-book is the first of a planned trilogy on the subject. Its eight chapters detail the basics of generative music and the Voltage Modular modules (core and those from third-party developers) that make it possible.
"This is not a cookbook. You won't find complete recipes for finished patches here. It's more a book about the ingredients and how to use the kitchen tools – to stay in the picture. Well, at least chapter 6 comes a bit nearer to delivering some recipes.
This book is the first of a trilogy about making generative music with Voltage Modular, and this trilogy is laid out systematically and aims to be as complete as possible.
“Systematically” means: starting at the beginning with the ingredients and the kitchen tools."
Making Generative Music With Voltage Modular, Vol. 1 is now available for download directly from the Rofilm website for only $27.50. The e-book (PDF) is 456 pages and includes access to 324 videos and an astounding 308 Voltage Modular presets. The book details the third-party modules required (in addition to Voltage Modular Core + Electro Drums) for each of the demonstrations and presets, including modules and bundles from developers such as R_Ware, Benard, Andrew Macaulay, Synthetic Future, Playertron, HetrickCV, and many more. A detailed listing of the book's contents are available at the site.
