Dome Music Technologies has released Poly Pressure Encoder, a free module that converts polyphonic control voltages into MIDI poly pressure messages. The MIDI output stream can then be sent to the MIDI Out module or Plug-In Host module to drive third-party soft synth plug-ins, or external hardware synths. The module was developed as a companion for Dome Music Technologies' Poly Performance Controller module, so that its pseudo-poly aftertouch operation could be extended beyond control voltages inside the Voltage Modular environment. However, it can also be used to provide multiple channels of independent, per-voice modulation for any MIDI synth which can receive and process MIDI Poly Pressure messages.
This video demonstrates how to drive Cherry Audio Chroma with Pseudo-Poly Aftertouch. This is done with a combination of the Poly Performance Controller, the Poly Pressure Encoder and a Mini Plug-In Host. Chroma's two Mono Aftertouch modes are demonstrated first. Finally, the Poly Pressure Encoder mode is demonstrated to highlight the contrast in expressiveness and fluidity.
Replicating this demo requires Voltage Modular Core to use the Poly Pressure Encoder, as it relies on the Voltage Modular Plug-In Host module (for driving third-party plug-ins) and the MIDI Output module (for external hardware devices, loopback into DAW, etc). Any device/plug-in must be able to receive and process Polyphonic Pressure MIDI messages.
Dome Music Technologies' Poly Pressure Encoder is available now and complete PDF documentation can be reviewed at the Dome Music Technologies website.
"This patch uses the Misfit Audio Drum Sequencer and the Poly Pressure Encoder to play different rhythmical patterns to each voice of the Cherry Chroma."
