Musician Jason Knox creates an alternate score for a segment of the 2014 film Ex Machina, using only DCO-106 and Cherry Audio effects.
SPOILER ALERT: Do not watch this video if you've never seen the film Ex Machina. A clip from a pivotal scene near the end of the movie was used in this exercise. I wanted to explore the Cherry Audio DCO-106, so I decided to make a composition exercise for myself with a few limitations. All sound sources had to come from only the DCO-106. Any FX processing was limited to a small set of plugins. I decided to stick with the Cherry Audio theme and only use Cherry Audio FX plugins. A film clip (Ex Machina) provided structure that was both helpful and challenging, and it also inspired the emotional tone of key moments throughout the composition. As much as I love having access to so many amazing virtual instruments and FX processors, limiting the selection proved to be a very useful exercise.
