Which JUNO Synth Sounds the Best?

Oct 9, 2022 | Woody Piano Shack

Woody Piano Shack is best known for his music hardware technology reviews and deep dives, but this time he puts six software emulations of the classic JUNO to the test. Can there be only one?

When compared to the new JUNO-X hardware earlier this year, he said this about Cherry Audio's DCO-106 in a blog post:

"First off is Cherry Audio's DCO-106, which as you might expect is a software emulation of the JUNO-106 from the 80s. Of course, you don’t get the control panel of the JUNO-X, or the convenience, but if you map up the controls on your MIDI keyboard you can perhaps get close. And it costs just $25 instead of $2000."

In his latest video, he compares the JUNO software plugin options, including DCO-106 at 9:50:

"I created six versions of the same song using all my JUNO 6, JUNO 60, and JUNO 106 virtual software synthesizer VST plugins.

► TAL-U-NO-LX

► CHERRY AUDIO DCO-106

► ROLAND CLOUD JUNO-60

► ROLAND CLOUD JUNO-106

► ROLAND CLOUD ZENOLOGY (ZENCORE MODEL EXPANSION, JUNO-X, JUPITER-X, FANTOM)

► SOFTUBE MODEL 84

Testing bass, pads, leads, and more. Which sounds the best?"
