Coming Soon from Bjooks: Here Come the Drums!

Our friends at BJOOKS are gearing up for their next must-have tome, Beat Gems: Drum Machines in Modern Music.

Written by Oli Freke, BEAT GEMS explores the sounds, circuits, design, and culture of drum machines – from early preset rhythm boxes to the iconic machines that helped define hip-hop, house, techno, electronic pop, and so much more.

The book will feature more than 60 drum machines, including classics such as the Roland TR-808, Linn LM-1, Oberheim DMX, and Akai MPC60, as well as rare, overlooked, and unusual machines with their own stories to tell. As with their other books, BEAT GEMS combines detailed photography, accessible writing, and a deep love for the instruments that changed music.

The Kickstarter campaign will launch soon! There will be early bird offers, a limited number of books overall, and some nice add-on offers on previous Bjooks titles, including Synth Gems, the Patch & Tweak series, and more.
