CatSynth's Multipart Deep-Dive into Crumar DS-2

Mar 31, 2026 | CatSynth TV

CatSynth's three-episode playlist detailing the DS-2, extensively covering the history, the Synth and Poly parts, the components, and the Cherry Audio extras.

We take a deep dive into Cherry Audio's new DS-2, a recreation of Crumar's odd first synthesizer. The original DS-2 was unique blend of a DCOs monosynth with a lo-fi waveform sound and a divide-down polyphonic engine in the mold of 1970s string machines, both of which have been recreated here, along with the shared VCF and VCA, plus a fully featured effects section, and arpeggiator, various voice modes, and more.

In Part 1 (above), we go into the history of the obscure original, listen to a few of the factory presets that come with the DS-2, and delve into the synth engine DCOs and a polyphonic engine.

Part 2 of our deep dive into Cherry Audio's recreation of the Crumar DS-2 features the VCF and VCA (which are shared by both the DCO synth and polysynth engines), the unison and multi voice modes, and keyboard splits/layers.

Part 3 concludes the series with a hands-on look at the Effects, Arpeggiator, and Presets.
