When Cherry Audio releases a new virtual instrument it’s something to get excited about. In this case with the Mercury-8 it’s really something to get excited about! Completing the trifecta of Jupiter synthesizers (4, 6 & 8), Mercury-8 is a recreation in plugin form of the legendary Jupiter-8 synthesizer released in 1981. As with all Cherry Audio instruments they have gone above and beyond the legendary synthesizer’s basic functions and have included effects, increased polyphony, communication with the original hardware unit, expanded modulation options and many others.
The Jupiter-8 was used by a variable who’s who of musicians and groups including Tangerine Dream, Tears For Fears, Howard Jones, Simple Minds, Depeche Mode, Journey, Yes, Toto, Stevie Wonder, Devo, Rush, Prince and a host of others. Today, the Jupiter 8 will set you back about $25,000 for a decent used unit. For a small fraction of that you now have the opportunity to own a digital copy with a massive upgrade and over 600 presets worth of sounds.
